Richard Hugo House, July 14 - August 7, 2005: ReAct Theatre, Seattle's only Multi-ethnic Philanthropic Theatre Company continues its season of Seattle premieres with Richard Greenberg's THE VIOLET HOUR, the recent Off-Broadway hit by the Tony Award-winning playwright of such successes as Take Me Out, Eastern Standard and Three Days of Rain.
What if you could see the future? Set in 1919 New York, a young publisher is just starting out. He can only afford to print one book and has to choose between two manuscripts...a novel by his best friend, and a memoir from his secret lover. His decision is complicated by the arrival of a strange machine which can seemingly predict the future. Don't miss this imaginative and thought-provoking new melodrama about love, time and fate.
THE VIOLET HOUR opens on Thursday, July 14th at 7:30pm, and plays Friday nights at 8:00pm, and Saturdays at 2:00pm and at 8:00pm. An additional performance has also been added on Sunday, August 7th at 7:30pm. All performances will be held at the Richard Hugo House, located at 1634 Eleventh Avenue, on the corner of 11th and Olive in Seattle on Capitol Hill. Free parking is available throughout the neighborhood or in the Richard Hugo House parking lot located behind the building.
Ticket prices are $12 General Admission; $9 Students/Seniors/Military/Disabled; and $6 for Children. Additionally, ReAct's first two 2:00pm Saturday Matinees on July 16th and July 23rd are both "Pay-What-You-Can" performance. Stage Management by Rachel Rene, with scenic design by Gregory Martin Heinzle, costumes by Jason Simms, lighting by Lynne Ellis and Sound design by Andrew Chin.
Established in 1993, ReAct strives to provide affordable quality entertainment using primarily non-traditional and multi-ethnic casting. Its purpose is to give artists of all backgrounds the opportunity to work on mainstream projects they might not normally have access to due to ethnicity, gender, or experience. A federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit philanthropic company, ReAct also works to service our community by using its productions to raise money, awareness and supplies for other arts and humanitarian organizations. ReAct is still recouperating from heavy financial setbacks caused by recent thefts of expensive audio-visual equipment during their season opening production of Neil LaBute's THE SHAPE OF THINGS last March. This production of THE VIOLET HOUR was made possible in part from a grant from the City of Seattle's Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs.
