Production Notes
Director's Notes
On the surface, Into the Woods is an entertaining blend of some of the world's most beloved fairy tales set to the magnificent music of
Stephen Sondheim...but like all the best fairy tales, it contains light...and darkness, becoming a metaphor for our own personal journeys in life:
what paths we take, what wishes we make and ultimately what we discover along the way in regards to love, loss, values, choices and responsibility.

Each of our journeys can have a profound effect on everything around us. And of course our journeys never truly end. Past decisions and actions,
both large and small, can comeback to haunt us. Like the characters in the show, in life, we continually find ourselves having to return to the woods,
faced with new challenges, new perspectives and new choices.
Into the Woods made its Broadway debut at the end of the Reagan era. The world has changed quite a bit since then, but the underlying messages
and universal themes that this show touches on are just as profound today...if not more so, particularly in light of recent world events and current
world politics. When things seem most at odds, who do we blame? Who actually is to blame? What is right? What is wrong? Are either we or those
with opposing viewpoints actually alone in our global community?

But metaphors and politics aside, Into the Woods is filled with fun and familiar characters, Lapine's ingeniously and inticately woven plot and
Sondheim's spectacular music...all of which have made it one of the most popular, most produced and most beloved shows in theatre history.
It has been a delight bringing our version of this production to life. We added some non-traditional ethnic elements and casting to the traditional
staging of this modern classic, and hopefully a few other fun surprises along the way. Fairy tales transcend cultural boundaries afterall! Although critical
reaction to our staging was as diverse as our casting, we're extremely pleased
that the show was so warmly embraced and appreciated by all the audiences who came to see it. May your own personal quests to live "happily ever after" be ultimately realized.
Be careful what you wish for and take responsibility for your actions.
