Artist's Bio
Mitch just finished a stint assiting director Shana Bestock on
Romeo and Juliet at Seattle Public Theatre. Mitch earned his MPhil in Irish
Theatre Studies from Trinity College, Dublin, in 1997 and his BFA from the University of
Victoria in 1987. He has also studied acting and directing at UCLA and the American Film
Institute. He was formerly Associate Artistic Director at the Washington
Shakespeare Festival in Olympia, where his credits include directing The Merry
Wives of Windsor, As You Like It, and Brian Friel's Dancing at Lughnasa,
appearing in Romeo and Juliet, As You Like It, and Richard II, and stage
managing Hamlet.
He is a founding member of Theatre Rozinante, directing their
premiere production, Shylock, a one-man show by Mark Leiren-Young, starring
Dennis Rolly. Mitch directed South Pacific for Northwest Savoyards, The Purple
Testament as part of The Twilight Zone-Live series at Seattle's Theater
Schmeater, and Tall Tales and the world premiere of David Koren's No More Beets
for Players Theatre in Dublin, as well as Dial "M" for Murder, The Cripple of
Inishmaan, The Best Man and The Lion in Winter at Burien Live Theatre. He also
directed Václav Havel's The Memorandum during his stint as Guest Artist at
Highline Community College. Other directing credits include My Cup Ranneth Over
at Phoenix Theatre in Victoria, and Havel's Audience and the world premiere of
Ariadne Shaffer's Empire Builder for festivals at New City in Seattle.
Mitch appeared as Tashtego in Moby Dick-Rehearsed at Dublin's Samuel Beckett Centre.
He has also appeared in The Grapes of Wrath for Driftwood Players, A Midsummer
Night's Dream at the Magnolia Playhouse in Los Angeles, The Eunuch at Phoenix
Theatre, and, for the Victoria Theatre Guild, The Rainmaker and Friel's
Philadelphia, Here I Come! Mitch is also an accomplished Stage Manager, working
for ArtsWest, Theater Schmeater, ReAct, Civic Light Opera, Northwest Asian
American Theatre, Northwest Shakespeare Ensemble, Annex Theatre, Empty Space and
the University of Washington. Mitch is a former board member of Theatre Puget
Sound, a member of the International Association for the Study of Irish
Literatures and a resident of Woodinville, Washington, where he lives with his
wife, Cindy, a graduate student at the University of Washington. They were married September 6, 1987. Currently Mitch works at the Chateau Ste. Michelle Vineyards and Wineries.
