Artist's Bio

Masaye is the Director of "YushinDaiko; a Japanese American Taiko Group", and is also the Teaching Assistant for the Studio sections of the University of Washington Art History Chado class, and still tutors 3 girls 3 days per week. She attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in Los Angeles, CSULA, and graduated from the UW in 1981 with a BA in Japan Regional Studies from the Henry M Jackson School of International Studies. In 2003, Masaye was presented with her second degree Tea teaching license, an honor she worked hard for for more than 20 years. She has been married for 16 years to Junzo Nakagawa, now of Las Vegas, Nevada. Her 3 sons, Justin Hidemi Kurihara (35), Jarod Tadashi Okano (32), Jordin Kanshi Kurihara (30) and granddaughter, Justice Masaye Kurihara (9)are some of her greatest accomplishments. She and Junzo recently acquired a new puppy named Miso who is a very happy and active puppy (and who is completely Junzo's dog only when she is really naughty).
