Artist's Bio
Kristen started her career at the age of 11 performing at many of the theaters around the Seattle area. She went on to minor in Drama from the University of Washington and took a turn competing in Latin Ballroom Dance throughout the U.S. and Canada. Upon graduation, she worked as the Audience Warm-Up Entertainer for the television show NW Afternoon on KOMO-TV/ABC for over two years.
Now she is primarily focusing her art solely on film, television and commercial work. She is available to travel and has appeared in several commercials, and has made other television appearances including being featured in the Emmy award winning episode of the KOMO/ABC television show, How 'Bout That. She has appeared in several Indie films; her favorite, The Wind Cries Marty, as the film was entirely improvised a la Christopher Guest style (Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman), which allowed Kristen to do what she does best: create a character and then set it free; most often in these situations, hilarity ensues. Kristen won Best Supporting Actress at the 2007 48 Hour Film Festival for her role in the spy film Sleepers. And the psychological thriller, Butterfly Dreaming, in which she played Katrina, the wife of the movie’s leading man played by Mad TV's Andrew Bowen, had its World Premiere at the 2008 Seattle International Film Festival.
You may recognize Kristen from her role in the Emmy Award winning Cold Turkey Anti-Smoking commercial campaign. In Kristen’s spot entitled Cocktail, she played a woman being hit on in a bar, who later goes outside to an alley to find her friend, a turkey with a cigarette in his neck, smoking. She is appalled he hasn't quit and scolds him, which prompts the turkey to laugh boldly as smoke billows from his neck. The Cold Turkey Anti Smoking campaign was awarded an Emmy at the 45th Annual Northwest Regional Emmy Awards in June 2008. Kristen’s spot, specifically, went on to win an additional Emmy.
As dance has been an exuberant passion of Kristen’s since she was a small child, Kristen is also a proud licensed instructor of Nurturing Pathways, a program that teaches creative dance based on brain development to children ages 3 months through 3 years. Kristen’s love for children and desire to enrich their lives is why she is thrilled to teach a fun program that will strengthen a child’s cognitive, emotional, social and physical growth. If you are interested in taking a class with your child or know of someone who may be interested, you can visit www.nurturingpathways.com and see Kristen's teaching schedule, and learn more about the amazing benefits of the program for your child. She will be teaching Saturdays Fall 2008 at the Phinney Ridge Neighborhood Center, and her schedule will be growing further. Feel free to contact her directly with questions.
