Artist's Bio
A singer and trombonist since childhood, Dan was a newcomer to acting in Spring 2005. Cast in an ensemble piece about the human costs of war (Elena Hartwell's The Wall), it proved to be a seminal experience; Dan realized firsthand that theatre is a vital form of storytelling, with the ability to bring performers and audience members together in remarkable ways. Three musicals, three Shakespearean roles and many other projects later, Dan is on board as ever. Two favorite roles have been Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Mortimer Brewster in Arsenic and Old Lace. Still singing, over the past several months Dan has been a Dickens Caroler, performed in The Merry Widow at Town Hall, and in Carmina Burana at Benaroya Hall. As a labyrinth designer, Dan has created dozens of temporary installations in Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia. He has also designed several permanent, publicly-accessible labyrinths, including one atop Maple Leaf Community Gardens near Northgate, and another adjacent St. Paul's Church near Seattle Center.
Dan is also, or has been a Certified SCUBA diver; a lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor; a Multifaith Works AIDS Care Team Member; a U.S. Marine Corps Rifle Expert, 2nd Award; a Trombonist in the First Marine Division Band; a U.S. Coast Guard Rifle Expert, Pistol Sharpshooter, Maritime Law Enforcement, and Quartermaster/Signalman; a Children's museum director; a camp program director; and a lighthouse keeper.
